Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms

Canada is known around the world for being an open, welcoming, and free country. Our rights and freedoms are unique, and very important to us. It is important when you are planning your move to Canada to know your rights.

The fundamental freedoms of every citizen of Canada include, but are not limited to:
Freedom of conscience and religion
Freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression, including freedom of the press and other media of communication

Freedom of peaceful assembly

Freedom of association

Some rights of every Canadian include, but are not limited to:

The right to vote

The right to life, liberty and security

Equality rights (including equality sex, race, religion and age)

Language rights (recognizing French and English as the two official languages of Canada)

The Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, of the Constitution Act 1982, is a short document which dictates all of the rights and freedoms granted to Permanent Residents and Citizens of Canada.
